On October 1951, one of the most successful TV shows began hitting the airwaves for the first time. Although reception was cold at first, it went on to become one of the most watched shows in the US. It would continue to receive the highest ratings unmatched until almost 40 years later.

In some respects, I Love Lucy was not just a TV show. It also presented new ideas considered radical in its day. It was the first to feature a cross racial couple ever on TV. Lucille Ball also broke boundaries for not being fired for her pregnancy which was the custom at the time.

Beneath the crazy antics and the humor of the show lay a more serious and pressing matter. It served as a platform for questioning social issues confronting women. The 50s was the turning point where women started to become modern, independent decision-makers they are known today. The show certainly contributed to this paradigm shift.

Even Hollywood itself experienced change from this show. I Love Lucy certainly influenced how sitcoms are made even through this day. The show featured a great ensemble of cast members with brilliant chemistry especially between lead stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
